Drying Carpet

A primary concern of water damage in a home or business is the effect it will have on the carpet or flooring.  ServiceMaster Professionals provides on-site carpet, tile, and hardwood floor drying.

A number of things must be considered when drying flooring in a home or office.  First, the age and condition of the carpet is taken into account, because in some cases, it can be more cost effective to replace the carpet than to restore it.  Your ServiceMaster Professionals technician will advise you and help determine the value of your carpeting.  Second, the length of time the carpet was exposed to water must be considered.  Most types of carpet can resist water for up to three days, but the sooner the water damage is addressed, the better.  Third, the type of water effecting the carpet will affect the restoration process.  We categorize water in three ways: Clean Water, Grey Water, and Black Water.  Clean water comes from a clean source and has no debris. Grey water is not clean, but it is also not hazardous (i.e. dishwasher, washing machine overflow).   Black water is sewage backup or runoff water, both of which are hazardous and must be handled with caution. Finally, the temperature of the water is taken into account.  For example, hot water can affect the glue that holds the carpet fibers together.  Again, our technicians will guide you through this process and help to determine what course of action needs to be taken in your specific situation.

Drying Hardwood Floors

When drying hardwood floors, the process is critical.  Hardwood flooring is very sensitive and must be handled with care.  Hardwood naturally holds some water (up to 10%), but an additional 5-10% can be absorbed without any visible effects.  Once the flooring is filled to capacity, however, the wood will begin to expand, causing cupping or crowning.  Both are extremely difficult to restore, therefore it is essential to get the water cleared and the drying initiated as soon as possible after a loss.

Odor Removal

Some smells are welcome in  the home.  Fresh laundry, cookies baking in the oven, or a fresh-brewed pot of coffee.  Some smells, however, are decidedly unwelcome.  We can help with these smells.

ServiceMaster Clean® has developed several highly effective methods of eliminating, not just masking, foul odors.  Once the source of the odor is identified, removed, and any and all affected surfaces are cleaned and disinfected, all that remains is eliminating the particles in the air left behind.

ServiceMaster has two tools in its arsenal against odor: the Active-O® ozone machine and the brand new NanoScale® OdorKlenz air filtration system.

activeo-left

The Active-O ozone machine eliminates odor by turning oxygen into ozone, which attaches to the offending particles in the air and decomposes or destroys them.  The ozone then passes through the machine again and turns back into oxygen.  The downside to this method is that ozone is unsafe to breathe and can be harmful to certain contents in the home, making it impractical in some circumstances.

For these instances, we have the new NanoScale OdorKlenz air filtration system.  This system uses a powerful new state-of-the-art air filter which traps, destroys, and removes odor-causing particulate matter in the air without the use of harmful gases.  It is also extremely fast.  In a test using ammonia, a substance with a highly detectable unpleasant odor, the OdorKlenz system eliminated the odor in 3-4 hours, much faster than most current industry methods.

Mold Remediation

While mold and mold spores are an important part of natural ecosystems, they are not welcome additions to any home or office.  Mold can cause serious health issues for people and pets that come into contact with it, as well as potentially damaging the surfaces it grows on.  Mold can begin to grow and spread with only a few necessary factors:

-moisture

-warm temperatures

-an organic food source

-time

Wet surfaces in the home or office, under the right circumstances, can begin to show signs of mold in as little as 48 hours.  That’s why at ServiceMaster Professionals, we understand the importance of reacting quickly to water damage emergencies.  The more time passes without appropriate action, the greater possibility of costly damage and health risk.

ServiceMaster Professionals has trained technicians that can identify mold and safely remove it.  At the conclusion of our work, we also have every mold case tested by a certified Industrial Hygienist to ensure the mold has been removed completely.

Call ServiceMaster Professionals if you think you might have mold in your home or office.
